Answers to common questions about how to get started.
Therapy
Do I need a referral?
No, you are welcome to self-refer. However, please note that without a referral from a GP, you will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (or CDM referral)
What can I expect at the first session?
Starting therapy can feel a little daunting, and that's completely understandable! My aim is to help you feel comfortable, heard, and supported from the very beginning.
In our first session, we'll spend some time getting to know what has brought you in and what's been happening for you. I will ask about different areas of your life — such as relationships, work, family, health, and day-to-day responsibilities — to build a clearer picture of your experiences and any contributing factors.
We'll also talk about what you're hoping to get out of therapy — whether that's making changes, building new skills, or simply having a space to reflect and be heard.
Importantly, the first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of my approach and decide whether you feel I am a good fit for you

How many sessions will I need?
There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this — it really depends on your individual needs and what you're hoping to achieve.
Early on, it can be helpful to meet a little more regularly to build momentum and start noticing changes. Over time, sessions can be spaced out as you begin to feel more confident and settled in the progress you're making.
We'll check in together along the way to make sure the pace feels right for you.
